Grunt like a caveman!

Went to try something called "Caveman Training" yesterday... SO MUCH FUN! It is very similar to Crossfit, where it involves a lot of cross-functional training exercises. Which basically means it is HARDCORE INTENSE! Which also means it was freaking AWESOME! :) Found this workout on Training Mobs... and really wanted to go ... simply because it's called CAVEMAN training! What does that mean!??!?! In my previous post, I put a video of a Caveman Training workout. Good times! I woke up this morning with bruises all over my body!!! Not sure how it happened... but it literally beat me up! Hahahhaa! My friend Richard was a trooper and went all the way to St-Leonard with me to try this! Merci Richard!!!

Here is how the workout went down:
3 circuits:
1) Tractor tire flipping (exactly what it sounds like). You flip a tractor tire towards a partner and they flip it back. Repeat for about 4 minutes.
2) Obliques circuit - 6 exercises of 40 seconds each including some crazy TRX contraptions, monkey bars and sledgehammering a tire :)
3) Modified burpees holding dumb-bells. Hands down, kick back into plank, do a row with each arm while in plank, kick back up into standing and push press the dumb-bells. Repeat for 4 minutes.
The workout was: Parts 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2

Ouf!!! It was intense but soooo much fun!!!

Here are some pictures that Frederic took during the session!!!

While holding yourself up suspended by the TRX straps, you need to bring your arms and legs towards each other to form a inverted V.... Yoga definitely helped me here!!!!!

Nothing like pounding the crap out of a tire with a sledgehammer to release frustrations!!!

Nothing like flipping tractor tires to make one feel like Superman... I mean a CAVEWOMAN!

This was ummmm... fun??? Hahahaha!

Hang from monkey bars and swing side to side... oh ya... and hold when your legs swing to the side!

TRX 1. Chrisy 0

AND... done!!!
Un gros merci à Frederic Guéveneux!!!!! J’ai déjà hâte pour la prochaine classe!!!

This was seriously awesome! I'm sad that it's so far away!!! But I will definitely go back!

Hot Yoga this morning with Gen was exactly what my body needed! Especially all the hip-openers!!! Now I just need work on my super tight hamstrings. And this mysterious swelling and bruising of my right hand :(

I am predicting a day off tomorrow.... it's been a crazy 13 days of training...

BREAK :) Wooohoooo!!!!!!

Giddy up!

J-E-L-L-Owwwwwwwww

Body feels like jello.. and sore... and tender... and generally feeling of owwwwwwwwwwwwww!! But a bad pain... the good "DAMN! I'm alive" pain :)

I've had an intense two days of workouts... well more specifically 13 hours.

Went to spinning Thursday night at 7pm with complaining quads, hips and calves... went straight to hot yoga at HappyTree right afterwards with an amazing hour with Sonya at 8pm!!! Even made it with a few minutes to spare for hugs and kisses! Ahhhhh Bliss! That places makes me happy! I was literally bouncing off the walls when I got there and had a really tough time during centering to stay still and relax. Kept telling myself to calm down but it just wasn't happening! But fast-forward 60 minutes and I was in Savasana heaven! Sigggghhhhhhhhhhh! Got some great stretching done with Sonya afterwards too. My quads haven't felt this great in a really long time!!! Was still wired though. Made it home around 10pm, had a quick bite to eat, shower and crashed...

Fast forward 5 hours to the sound of my alarm going off at 5:30am!!! Gotta love those early morning workouts! Time for Crossfit! Wooohoooo!! This morning WOD was intense! But saying Crossfit is intense is kind of redundant!!!

WOD:
Part 1: AMRAP for 6 minutes
10 x Sumo deadlift high pull
10 x Push ups
10 x Double unders
Rounds completed: 4.5

Rest 2 minutes

Part 2: AMRAP for 6 minutes
10 x Tuck jumps
10 x Jumping Squats
10 x Mountain clmbers
Rounds completed: 7.5

Rest 2 minutes

Part 3: AMRAP for 6 minutes
10 x Squat tuck jumps
10 x Burpees
Rounds completed: 4.5

I am pooped!!! But really pumped!!! Because tomorrow I am going to try something called "Caveman Training"!!!! Check out the video!

Seriously!!! How awesome is that?!?!?!?! I'm looking forward to some primitive grunting! :)

Week in review:
Sunday: Hot yoga
Monday: Crossfit
Tuesday: Spinning
Wednesday: Crossfit
Thursday: Spinning, Hot yoga
Friday: Crossfit
Saturday: Caveman training!!!!!!!!

So excited!!! Also makes me a little nauseous at the same time!!!

The same person who called me a masochist called me "compulsive" today... more like OBSESSIVE!!! Obsessive masochist?? I'm sure that's going to make its way into the DSM eventually! Here's to a new disorder!

Giddy up!

Pound them out!

One at a time! The only difference between 1 burpee and 100 burpees is two 0's! I can pound them out now! I really am starting to like burpees! Except that I need to fix my form a little bit because I keep banging my knees so I have perma-bruises on them! But I was told today that I had an efficient burpee. Not sure what that means because after 100 of them I still feel like my heart is going to fly out of my throat!!!

I also met Angie this week. For those of you not aware of the Crossfit ladies, allow me to introduce you to Angie:
100 pull ups
100 push ups
100 sit ups
100 squats

By the way - I am no longer allowed to do modified push-ups. At one point I put my knees down and Roberto screamed "Knees up Chrisy!!!"... But without that I never would have known that I can do 100 full push-ups! Love being challenged!

Yeah... 100 of each!!! Got her done in 20:27!!! I have never been so exhausted after a work-out... EVER! And it was only 20 minutes. I stayed lying on the floor for a good 5 minutes before I was able to peel myself up and crawl to the shower.

The next day introduced a whole new level of soreness... literally the only thing on my body that didn't hurt were my earlobes! But I powered through the spinning class last night even though my quads were screaming from the first push! Feeling my muscles scream like that make me feel so ALIVE! It's awesome! But I'm just wondering... at some point does it stop hurting???

This morning's WOD was equally as gruelling... apparently the universe wants me to work my quads!!!
Two rounds of:
50 burpees
50 40lbs thrusters
50 squat tuck jumps
50 sit ups
50 squats
50 double unders
Total time: 29:02

It was haaaaaarrrrrrrrrrddddddd!!!!! And now I'm exhausted!!! But time to pack up my bag for spinning tomorrow! Woooohoooo!!! Hope we get more red dots tomorrow :)

Someone said to me today "I think you're a masochist!"... I think he's right! AND I LOVE IT!

Until the next time... keep smilin' and keep on rockin' the free world!

Giddy up!

Time is ticking!!!

I admit... I am panicking...

The Ride is coming SOON!!!! 143 days to be exact! 20 weeks to go!! At current workout rate... only 120 workouts before the Ride... is that enough??

I'm seriously freaking out!

I also have my fitness evaluation tomorrow... I'm kind of scared he's going to tell me that I'm not going to make it... Ahhhhh....

FREAKING OUT!!!!

Enough of that... can someone come over and slap me!

My new mantra

My new mantra: Burpees are my friend! Burpees are my friend! Burpees are my friend!

I am learning to embrace them! Truly! Seriously.... I really am.... I think... No I am! I LOVE BURPEES! (Eventually I will start to believe this... hahahahaha!!!)

Haven't updated my blog in a week... but not because I haven't been training... just pure laziness! Yes... I will pound out 100 burpees... but can't update my blog! There is no help for me! LOL!

But to keep me accountable, here is my last week of training.

Thursday: Spinning
After some intense upper body workouts on Wednesday, I was happy to have an intense lower body workout for balance. YAY spinning!!! Leoni, the instructor, has a "exertion" system for segments. Green, blue and red. With red being the most intense. Up to date, we have not yet had a red segment... until that night! It was tough... 3 minutes at high tension. Up, down, front, back and repeat! It was awesome! The burn was definitely felt after about ummm... 15 seconds! I am looking forward to the last class of the session which consists of only red segments! Wooohooo!

Friday AM: Crossfit
The WOD was great!!! And seriously whooped my ass!!!
50 tuck jumps
30 thrusters (50lbs)
100 mountain climbers
Repeat.... 5 times!!!!!!
I plopped on the floor and stayed there for a few minutes after I was finished. OUF!!!

Saturday: "Get Fit for the Cure" Boot Camp
This was part 5 of the "Get Fit for the Cure" fundraiser series. This was also a Crossfit-inspired  workout. We had a good mix of different fitness levels, so we had to ensure that the workout would be intense for all. Lots of modifications was the key.

Boot camp a la Gluttons!!!
Yep... we kicked their ass. Since I couldn't do the WOD with them, I tried it out before the class to make sure we weren't killing anyone :) They were all troopers!!! We had them do 3 rounds for time.... and as a cool down... A 4TH ROUND!!! They weren't too happy with us then... but they powered through it! What an awesome group!

Sunday: Surfing
.... couch surfing that is.... I was pooped. Actually make that POOPED! The most I could do was press the remote buttons! LOL!

Monday: Push presses
.... as in pressing the snooze button 100 times (at least!!!)....
My intention was to wake up for Crossfit that morning, but I couldn't make it happen. Every ounce of will power in my body was not enough to get me out of bed early enough to make it to Crossfit. But to make up for it, that night at home, I did a mini-WOD at home:
3 rounds of:
25 pushups
25 situps
25 burpees
25 mountain climbers
Excellent!

Tuesday: Day off
Had a JMSB Alumni pub night... so took the opportunity to catch up with some old school-mates. Awesome night. I also cheated and had a couple of drinks :) Heehee! Go big or go home right!?!?!?!?!

Wednesday: Crossfit
Got up bright and early to head to Mansfield for Crossfit. Today's WOD was wicked! Mind you... I don't think there's ever a WOD that's easy-breezy! LOL! That's the beauty of Crossfit!
5 rounds of:
20 burpees
20 clean and push press (50lbs)
Today's WOD was also followed by a plop in a puddle of my own sweat. Awesome!

Ahhhhhh.... I am loving this training!

But on to a much better subject... Bacon! I had a "not-so-secret" rendez-vous with bacon this weekend :) Oh Bacon! How I've missed you!

.... YA RIGHT!!! ...
On the docket tomorrow... new class called "Athletic training"... I have no idea what it is... But will keep you posted!!!

Cheers!

Shake shake shake...

As in shaky shaky shaky!

Thanks to a wake-up call from Char... I made it to Crossfit this morning!!! And am I ever glad I did! It was an awesome WOD!

Warmup - 3 rounds of:
- 15 sec samson stretch (each leg)
- 10 overhead squats
- 10 push-ups
- 10 sit-ups
- 10 back extensions

WOD - for time:
- 30 dive bombers
- 40 back extensions
- 50 jumping lunges (each leg)
- 60 sit-ups
- 70 burpees

Time for WOD: 17:02

I felt great afterwards. There's definitely something to be said about doing all that even before I've had my first sip of coffee....

But apparently my mind doesn't work well without coffee. After my workout, went to the locker room to change. Opened my gym bag to discover that I only brought yoga clothes for later.... but no clothes for work. OOPS. At least I had a change of clothes and didn't have to go to work with sweaty workout clothes!!! And it's also a good thing that I don't practice yoga in booty shorts and a sports bra... because that would be awkward!!!

So yes... even after that crazy Crossfit class I had all intentions of going to a hot yoga class tonight. But around 2pm today I started to crash. HARD.....

But I MADE IT. And it was equally awesome!! Although my upper body has officially taken a hard beating after today's two workouts... I have a feeling tomorrow's going to be rough. Anybody else see Rub A535 in my future? Oh yeah!!!

Happy that tomorrow is spinning... so time to give my lower body a beating :)

Keep smilin', keep rockin' and keep being awesome!
